I thought my mantis shrimp wiped out my snail population, but I guess I was wrong. I use to have nassarius snails, about 9 months ago, but Dexter wiped them all out. Its been about 2 weeks since her death, and now I find this little guy. He's about 3/16"........do you guys think whelk or nassarius?

Nassarius are easy to identify by looking for a little tube going up and their flat foot that is kinda long. they don't really go into their shells. The shell could be a nassarius, but I would need to see the underside to confirm.

It's neither, it's a juvenile columbellid, Euplica scripta. They are the same snails sold as "Strombus Grazers," and are harmless.

    Euplica scripta

    Cheers,

Thats exactly what it looks like. He wasnt dark like a whelk, so I still had a little doubt about that. Wish I saw this before I threw him out, betterr to be safe than sorry though. Thanks, k+.
