So, I have this thing in my tank that looks and acts like a snail. It eats algae and is generally cool, but I'm wondering what it is. It moves much faster than a normal snail, and is kinda halfway between snail and slug in that it's got a weird half-shell on it.

Can you get a picture? This would be very helpful in the identification of this specimen! :D

There's 2 up, I moved them to a different album so they were broken for a minute.

That'll be a Stomatella. Long antennae and fast crawling along with the flattened shell on the dorsum are good clues. They're good algae eaters.

    Cheers,

    Don

Me neither. If they're not toxic to corals, I'd like to get a couple more, this guy usually sits in the crevices of the overflow, which means it never gets clogged lol

Ask, you never know but it may be easier to ask a friend who has them and get a few, they multiply really well. I had a bunch but my cleaner shrimp learned a new trick one day and poof...

you'll have better luck catching these guys hitchiking on live rock than asking the lfs. they do an amazing job cleaning and get into some pretty tight spaces which other jumbo shelled snails cant.

+1 to this snail, if only someone could start reproducing these guys and making them more available to the market. id rather have them than a bunch of other bulldozer snails.
