snail with out a shell?

    hey everyone i woke up this morning to seeing a snail that looks like its shell was cut off?? dont mind the dirty glass lol. it looks like its moving but extremely slow like 1/8" per hr. any ideas what this thing is?

    Looks like a stomatella.

    Agreed. They are good, just eat algae.

    sweet i wonder how i got him lol no new rock for like 6 months and even then i scrubbed it down like crazy

    That's consistent with what I experienced. I didn't see them for probably 9 months after my last live rock purchase.

    I noticed one of these a couple of weeks ago. It was not small nor big. Now, I see at least three tiny ones every night. They do come out at nights. I wonder how these things reproduce. The funny thing is that I saw the larger one a couple of nights ago on top of one of my little crabs on the glass. I thought it was trying to devour the tiny crab and put the flashlight on him and he quickly got away from the crab. But I don't know if it was really trying to harm the crab or not. I know they are supposed to be algae eaters.

    I actually have a nassarius that all of sudden lost its shell but still moves a lot. I see him all over my tank. I have no idea how it happened but doesnt seem to slow him down.

    Pix or it didn't happen. ;D

    I thought the shell was part of their spine (like turtles) and they died if they lost their shell. :confused:

    I have started to notice stomatellas in my tank as well. Interesting creatures. Congrats :)
