Snails from the beach

    My uncle has a 120 gallon tank and he gets all his hermits and snails from the beach. Were going up there today and I'm not sure of I should do the same since his tank isn't all that great. Lemme know w

    there are laws around this... just be sure you stay legal...

    past that, you can't just grab any ol' snail, you got to be able to ID what you're grabbing. A lot of snails on beaches are predatory. The vast majority at the beaches around me (in the gulf of America) are predatory.

    But I've also been to beaches where I could find most of the snails I do keep... so it all depends.

    I would def. ID anything you grab. You don't want a mutant snail that will wipe out a tank. In other words, don't go to the beaches like mine with nuclear power plants :)

    If this is in new york you need to be carefull which hermit you get. There are the long-claw hermits which are fine, but the broad-claw hermits get HUGE and can take down small fish. Be mindfull that theses are temperate species and wont last as long as tropical hermits and snails will.
