    Hi

    I have a 75 gal tank.
About how many snails should I have in this tank?
What type ? My LFS has 3 types plus sand sifters.
I have about 8 hermit crabs, plus 1 big green emerald crab

Sorry to let this slip by! For your sized tank, I would get about 25-30 snails. Astreas, ceriths or margaritas are all good choices. If you want sandsifting snails as well, I would get about 15-20 nassarius or bumblebee snails.

One thing that I would like to add regarding snails is that, I would add snails slowly over time. The reason being that you don't want to add too many snails at once especially for a tank that isn't that mature-you run the risk of starvation by introducing too many snails at once or too quickly!
Also make sure to acclimate your snails slowly to avoid stress and killing your snails-they don't handle abrupt water parameter changes well(water from the pet shop and your tank water)!

There a lot of different opinions on sand sifters. Some people argue that they kill off benificial detrus eating critters, while others argue that stirring the sand bed is a must.
