I've always made sure my hermits and other crabs get something...never lost a snail to one yet. I have lost a couple things to nassarius snails though LOL.

I have yet to have a CuC hermit kill a snail or a fellow hermit, my hawkfish on the other hand.... different story. As I feed my fish I can tell where they get a little full/lazy and start to taper off. Thats when I go for a little bit more food dropped in from various locations to feed the CuC minions.

they are scavengers like i stated. i have a problem because i never get enough shells. you dont need to feed your hermits and snails specifically they eat leftover food and other waste. sure you could throw in a few pieces of shrinp here and there that wouldnt hurt but its not necessary

Curious - I've got probably a dozen hermits in my tank as part of the CUC. If I was going to purchase a fish to eradicate them only, what fish would it be?

150gal mixed reef, plenty of snails, CB shrimp, cleaner shrimp, pair of BJ triggers & couple of smaller tangs

There is no such fish that only eats hermit crabs. If you only have 12 I would suggest just picking them out or using a crab trap.
