Out of perhaps a couple hundred snails we have a few that have this hair like growth. It is easily pulled off but I have no idea what this is. When we first purchased a snail package a couple had this but I thought I got it it all off, obviously not. Also, If my reply is late please forgive as we have yet another fire in Santa Barbara and our power is intermittent.

The growth appears to be green, or else I would have guessed maybe it's the beard from mussells att'd to them in the wild? This beard stuff is filamentous, relatively easy to pull off, but it's black, I believe.

Maybe it's some sort of macro algae? I can't discern the thickness from the photo. Are you sure it's not chaetomorpha?

It is definitely a transluscent green, not black. I doubt it is chaetomorpha but not sure as there are only a few and nothing to compare closely with.

Weird stuff, but I guess that happens a lot in reef tanks.

Looks like some form of algae. I think it is far too thin and straight to be cheatomorpha. I don't think its hair algae either, the strands are too long and too far apart from each other.

    Whatever it is its ugly.

You have that right, quite ugly. I think since no postive ID I should remove it as best I can. I will wait a little more as it is slow growing. I am sure that is will pop up again so if it turns out to be beneficial I can start over.

Looks like hair algae to me too, either bryopsis or cladophora, I think cladophora glomerata

I think you might be correct or at least close enough. The only difference I see is that the C G seems to have some branches and this growth is single strands.
