Looks good, Snook. Have you thought about painting the inside of the sand to make it "waterproof" ?

    Your helper sure looks happy.

I think i'm going to get some spray urethane or some Thompson's water seal and just go to town on it. The outside will be painted, black and ill put trim on it and what not, for cosmetics. I still need to paint the back glass black when i drill her for my over flow and returns. but that's a little ways away.

Yeah hes happy alright, not. I had just woke him up because he passed out on my phone that i needed to take the pics with haha.

Well Ive made absolutely 0 progress on this tank because i have no funds to put forth on it. hrs are being cut like hair at work and its hard just being able to pay for necessities. :( but anyway here's a list of what i would like to do to the tank.

    - glass holes overflow. Originally i was leaning toward the 1200 gph but i think i would be just fine with a 700. I forget where i saw a tank around my size use the 700 and it seems to do the job just fine. 1200 would be at 16x turnover in the display, and the 700 only 9.3x. I know the rule of thumb for sps is above both of those. but with power heads and stuff in the tank im guessing that will boost these rates. (help me chose!)
    - glass holes 3/4" return
    - I'm still on the fences about my skimmer, its either SWC cone 180, or a reef octopus nwb150. The swc is bit pricier but i dont think i could go wrong with either.
    - I would love to get the new dimmable ATI fixture 6x54w i love the look of it and the brand is very reputable, although if i can find a decent pair of 175wMH ill retro those and 2 t5's in a canopy.
    - mag 9.5 return pump would be perfect for my 40 gallon sump i'm planning on making as soon as Petco has their $1/gallon sale again... which i was told should be happening this month... well see. I'm guessing with all the baffles installed my sump will be close to 30ish gallons and that would put me at just over 30x turnover for the sump.
    - 2 Koralia 1400 pumps, ill add more if needed ( would love the mp10's but money is key here lol)
    - after seeing Saints' bare bottom tank i think im going to do the same with this one. Ill paint under the tank black to hide the stand and what not.
    - brs reactors, i have 1 already on my 20, for gfo, ill just get another for carbon.
    - I would love a controller but i cant afford it :( (ill ask santa for xmas lmao)

Please feel free to chime in you input, I just want to make this tank as nice as i can. IF this was your tank, what would you do differently... what would you keep? I know most of you out there can afford just about anything your tank needs but consider im a poor college kid working part time. be easy on me. haha

p.s donations are now being accepted to help the cause.. hahahaha jk!!

The 700gph overflow will be fine, your return pump controls how much water goes through the overflow.

Suggested flow through the sump is 6 to 10 times the sump's volume to increase skimmer efficiency and keep macro bubbles at bay. Look into an Eshopps PSK-150, I use it on my tank and am very pleased with it.

I would suggest 4 koralia 1050. It will give you better random flow using more pumps.

Some mini progress. I picked up the 40B for my sump yest. I have a picture of it but photobucket for some reason isnt cooperating. Just picture another tank under it and that about sums it up lol. It fits under the tank perfectly. Cant wait to get baffles! should i go acrylic or glass? im leaning toward glass.
