This is going to a bit lengthy, but I have defeated the brown scourage (I identified it as dinos, cyano, and diatoms-microscopically), and I will tell you how I did it.. Here is my thread about when it all started. http://www.3reef.com/forums/algae/cyano-52321.html

Now my tank is back to its pristine condition, and things are going much better. The changes that I made are: Phosphate reactor, running the tank fallow for 2 months (without any water changes and all fish were removed), 7 days lights out (I removed the corals to another tank for his time period), reduction in the temp (to 76F), added a refugium growing chaeto, added 35lbs more live rock, and the thing that I believe had the biggest effect was that after my fuge filled with chaeto, I would rip out half of it out, and stuff it all over the display tank (over the bad dino spots), until I had most of the tank covered in cheato. Here is a pic.. :) Putting the chaeto over the really bad spots served two functions: first, it cut out the light to the dinos and second, it starved the dinos under it for nutrients. Now I have so much chaeto I don't know what to do with it! :)

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me. GOOD LUCK- the entire process took about 3-4 months...
