    Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to quickly get input on an idea I had. I'm looking to keep my 40g breeder as a simple set-up in my living room. I though about going FOWLR with Macroalgae, but am rethinking that now.

Would I be alright getting a snowflake eel if I put it in the 40g breeder by itself? I have sump on the tank and think I could easily handle the bioload, making it simple, yet striking.

    Thoughts please?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
The eel will quickly out grow the tank and you need an escape proof lid.

Eels are escape artists and the first thing needed is a tight fitting lid. They can get over 2 feet long.40 may be a little small for an adult.

Thanks- I planned to put a large piece of plexi over the top and I would put a lid on my overflow box to prevent him from taking a ride to the sump. The sump would be open air to help with gas exchange.

Any idea of how quickly they grow to full size? I'm thinking maybe I can just get a small one and when it gets too large "trade it in" for another smaller one.

    ah crud!

Maybe I can set-up a program with my LFS where they sell me a small snowflake then I will raise it for them, then trade it back for a small one (even trade).

They'll get a larger eel that they can sell for more money and I get another small one that won't out grow my tank. Seems like a win-win to me ;D

Another question- can I do a bare bottom with a snowflake? I figure that will help keep the tank from gathering left over food as I hear they are messy eaters.

You could do a BB, lots of macros will help, but the eel will probably need a larger tank as an adult....
