Well, he was not doing that. Anyone move sudden or turn on or off a light in the room ? Hubby have odd colored or bright colored shirt on ? Some fish do get "heat attacks" and often die quickly.I once lost a pygmy angle that way. Lights on, put in some food, he eat it and..... bam, went into convulsions and was dead in sec's.

Sometimes the stress get's to them and they just so happen to lose their cool. Think of it, if you were trapped in a box, your anxiety would drive you to insanity and possibly suicide. Was it a farm raised clown or wild caught?

no gound probe. i think it was his process of dying. ya i do have an ammonia spike, that's the fish that's not doing well. this morning we thought he was dead so my hubby went to fish him out and he went into a hole in my LR. god if he dies in there it should be really fun trying to get him out without distroying the beautiful rock. i guess i'll have to remove the rock. i'm picking up a 5g tank tonight for a qt tank. my question about that is, doesn't it have to cycle as well...same rules for qt sw tank as a display tank. being smaller will it cycle faster. want this tank for hospital and qt for new fish in the future. god i'm really frustrated now.

Yes, it does have to cycle. But you can use your main tanks water to cycle it asap. You also need to run a dedicated filter for it and seed it with bacteria.

I don't think this will help at this point seeing as the main tank is still cycling as well :(
