woohoo... missing in action fishie found alive in action.

I purchased a yellow watchman goby and had him swimming around my tank for about a week. So i decided to buy him a tiger pistol shrimp. After the first night, pistol shrimp dug his burrow; a HUGE burrow i might add underneath a 8lb FIJI rock with soo many holes that he created a mound of sand about 6 inches high on the glass. Anyways, it was a week since my goby has ever been seen and i thought that the pistol shrimp ate him.

Today i was writing on a forum and i looked at the aquarium and found the goby checking guard at the new entrance. huge smile on my face; god i love the reef aquaria.

    toodles, and karma for me!!!

Awesome! Gobies can be very secretive when they're new, so for future reference, don't worry about a goby that is missing when it is new until it's been gone for about 2 weeks. I recently had the same experience with a green banded goby. Also for future reference, a pistol shrimp would almost never (And I only say almost because anything is possible in the ocean, even though I've never seen, heard, or read about this happening) eat a shrimp goby like a watchman.

You gotta make sure that some Goby are meant to be "watchmen" for shrimp though.

Get used to your goby not popping out for a day at a time. Ours poked his head out at feeding time yesterday, and that was it. When we got him, he paired with the shrimp in the first 10 minutes :D

Our other goby, a pinkbar, went missing for 3 days. And we found him behind our tank. All dried up and potatoe chipped. So, if you think he's missing, check around and behind the tank. If he's not there, he's still in the tank :p
