I think I'm going to bite the bullet. I have never made my own SW. I get my water from my LFS that is right down the street. They use IO salt and I see no reason to change. However, a RO will pay for it's self and at least I will have water when I need it.

So I will put it in the utility closet that is close to the tank, but I won't be able to run a line over to my equipment closet just cause things are in the way. So I will still have to make it and change jugs on my tank. I also won't have room for storage either. So I will have to make stuff when I need it. That pretty much sucks.

So I just need a unit... splice into a water line or connect somehow.....then let it run to fill stuff up. Can I utilize any sort of auto shut off valve and floats just so I don't forget and overflow a jug? What else do I need?

I will try to see what I can do to get some automation and storage capacity. I could run it to the garage but it would freeze in the Winter.

Oh ya... and how much reject is there. Obviouslt that has to go to a drain.

yeha i need to figure out how to automate my water making more. it takes so long to fill up a 5 gallon bucket.

one thing i was kinda thinking about was making something with a large camping/fishing type cooler. i would still keep the RO under my kitchen sink. then i could just wheel the cooler in front of the sink once a week.

i would put a float valve, heater, and powerhead to circulate water in the cooler. so i could put the full cooler back in my spare soom while it mixes the salt.

then when its time to change the water i could just wheel the cooler in front of the tank.

if i wanted to get real fancy i could mount some sort of return pump, so it would be easy to put the water into the tank

sorry i kinda rambled, its something that sive been thinking about for a few weeks now

You will need access to a cold water source to feed the RO/DI plus a drain for the waste which is normally 4:1 or 4 gallons of waste to 1 gallon or treated water. If the unit has an autoshutoff valve it is easy to automate the system for filling jugs, buckets, a remote reservoir or a trash can.
My RO/DI and 23 gallons of storage are in my attached garage with a 1/4" line feeding into the house and my sump via a peristaltic pump hooked to an ATO system.
