It has been only a week into my cycle, but I used live rock/base rock/sand/water from the LFS so it should be a quick one. I just needed to see something swimming in there! :goldfish:

The LFS said adding a Blue Damsel shouldn't be a problem even with the tank not being fully cycled. I acclimated him, and then set him free in my tank to swim. Or so I thought... but he thought it would be much cooler to chill in one of my caves in the rock...

I'm hoping that after a bit he will decide to come out and swim around instead of being a bump on a log. I shouldn't be worried about the fish though right? I had my water tested at the LFS, and everything was good.

Has anyone else had this happen with a Damsel?

    Thanks!

    ------------------------------------Update!---------------------------------------------------------

So I snuck into my room quietly to look at my fish tank and my new damsel was swimming around which is awesome! But then I get a little closer to examine him and he darts back into his cave!

Looks like my new damsel is a little shy lol, ah well maybe he'll come around to letting me admire him

He is just a little scared. He should adapt and start swimming more.

Thats what I figured and was hoping. Everyone says these fish are bottom of the barrel so to speak, but I actually like the very vibrant blue color.

I love damsels! I think they are beautiful. People just don't like them because they can become very aggressive.

Yeah I'm thinking I maybe I'll get another, can you have a mixture of them?

For example One blue, one yellow tail?

Then again the LFS said I can take the damsel back and get a refund/store credit. And I really like clownfish they seem so "playful" lol

You can mix them, but in 10 gallons I wouldn't. They would probably rip each other to pieces.

Yeah your right, looks like it will be 1 or 2 peaceful fish for me. (adding a skimmer is in the works)

After a few months I'd like to try a coral. My question would be what are my options? 48 watts of t5 lighting with the coralife so I think im good there.

If you can catch the damsel, I'd take him back after the cycle. Unless you're totally in love with him by then (I probably would be). Then I'd get a clown and a goby. Both peaceful and do well in small tanks.

As far as corals go, it's really up to you and what you like! The best to start with are soft, easy corals, like zoas, mushrooms, etc.
