    but here I am...

I realized between me and my wife have been over feeding our fish tank. The N03 is at about 18PPM. I have done a 15 Gallon water change (this is all the RO/DI water I had on standby) and I am in the process of making 30 more.. Should take between 3 and 4 hours to do so. My question is - should I fill my mixing tank with regular water (non ro/di) treat it with a water decholorinator and do a 30 gallon water change right now? Or wait until my RO/DI water is ready.

I cleaned out my filter media (it was getting to the point where I would normally change it) and have stopped feeding (obviously). Your thoughts are welcome.

My fish look fine - I have recently (4 weeks ago) had an anem split and the second one has been a little odd - hiding from light and going into bad spots (before the levels spiked.) so he looks a little bleached but nothing beyond repair. What set off the alarm for me was when the other half that hadnt moved since the split moved today.

Just wait. 18ppm is in no where near an emergency. Either way, you should be mixing the water and salt for 24 hours before adding to your tank anyways ;)

Thats why I keep the pellets hidden. Seriously, I cringe when she feeds. I tell her I fed them an hour ago and she keeps tossin it in. But yeah, packs right about no emer. Its good that you are on the ball.

I have to admit - while she may have been overfreeding, its probably my fault for not taking the time to show her exactly how much to feed. BUT SHE not I was the one to notice something was wrong. I will pass on the compliment..

THANK YOU BOTH FOR YOUR HELP!

18 is nowhere near an emergency. Doing large water changes will cause more harm than leaving it. Do small water changes and cut back feeding and you'll be just fine.

Ya 18 WOW I've run full SPS tanks that had NO3 in the 20 to 30 range 100% of the time with no ill effects.

Don't be too hard on your wife, I'm sure the fish enjoy the extra feeding
