In the house we just moved in to, I set up my RO/DI in the garage. I didn't realize it was getting a good amount of light from the sun in there. One canister is clear and sure enough it is getting green with algae. I took that canister off and replaced it with an opaque one but is this thing screwed now that it has gotten algae in it? What should I do next ?

is it your rodi that has algae in it or the tub you keep your ro water in.

It is in the first chamber of the ro unit. None in any other chamber or the storage tank

yes i would bleach it and it should be fine just make sure to flush it out real good afterwards.also they should not have hot water running through them its bad for the membrain. i know you dont have it hooked up to hot water but it will make it real hot in your garage. i would put it inside with the air conditioning

oh nevermind, you got an opaque one...

I did this once on flexible drain pipe...... We may be stupid but I get a laugh out of it. :) I think with a good cleaning it should be close enough a little algae broken down every now and then can't hurt anything even if there is some in there.

I agree John. So I took the whole unit apart and bleached everything, rinsed real well, put all new lines on and new filters. Took the membrane out and flushed it real good. It seems the only part that has algae was the clear canister. I ran it for a while and tested. I have 0ppm after my DI unit and everything looks good. This at least made me clean the RO unit real well and put in some new DI resin which I'm sure was overdue. Now I just have to battle some GHA in the tank because of this!
