    apparently in 2007 i didnt do my taxes properly when i had to forcibly close my IRA. so i owe the IRS money, we came to terms last november on a 12 month payment plan, and ive been paying them 25% more each payment to cut that timeframe down. well tax time came this year and they owed me $xxxxx of which i had intended on paying off my two other debts in life and use the remainder for a new light fixture for my tank. 2010 for me is the year i go debt free... IRS, and two other credit cards and im done finally.

    the g'darn IRS decided to apply the money they owed me to the money i owe them. part of me feels this isnt right considering i SETTLED my existing debt with them in a form of a 12 month payment arrangement. and ive never missed a payment in fact they've been paid 5-6 days prior to the deadline. (they send you literature that scares the hell out of you to pay it. they threaten prison time, etc.)

    granted this takes the remainder of the 12 months and cut it to two, but the fact remains that i cant use the sum of the money to take care of other pending issues and get my lighting.

    im venting in case you read this and were wondering why i am complaining.... it comes down to me being a baby about not getting my light and having to wait, a few months, till i get the cash saved for them again.

    :angry::(:cry:

    2007 - they taxed you and i so much friggin interest too. which btw they wont let you reduce. they'll only settle for a payment plan and thats about it. i fought em for several months.

    i learned you cant win against the IRS. they're by the book, aggressive, and the people i spoke to were rude. person that came and met with me however was nice.

    find the fine print in the agreement contract, you may have a breach of contract case, or you'll find their usual sneaky manuver ouf saying if we owe you a return it's ours till your debt is payed off, of course it will cost you a lot more in time and money than just paying them off as soon as possible and moving on.

    yes, there is a stipulation in the contract telgar. they would hold the sum of money until the original 2007 debt was 100% settled. i still think its lame :)

    There was a guy in Tampa that paid off his property taxes in bags of quarters. Legal tender, they had to accept it, and spent hours counting all several thousand dollars in unrolled bags of quarters. I would love to do something like that.

    You could do that. Down side is they could easily say they lost it or it was a smaller amount. If you send them a check you have it in writing.
