You may if you have the tank infront of a window'
But i would keep an eye on the temp in the tank, summers can get awefully hot there.

If need be' you can make a cheap chiller for your tank water by useing a dorm room freezer' , real simple for a tank of that size you have.

    Salutations and Welcome.

    Glad you found way here.

Just couple of hours ago got email notice from DFS (Drs Foster & Smith) that they were having big sale on chillers.

If you need one, looks to be some big savings there.

Personally, the price of a chiller will pay for allot electricity for my living room AC. That way I get to enjoy the cool also on those few days we may need it here in PNW. (actually is snowing quite heavily outside right now as posting this) - this is supposed to be spring!!!

    Anyway...check out DFS.

Keep us posted on what you decide.

    Good Luck!
    ;D

Using fans also work good. Have one blowing across the top of the tank facing the water and another one blowing directly at the water in the sump/refug tank.

Actually, The temp in my tank reached 85.6 today. I don't know what it hurt, but I got it down as quick as i could. Thats what made me start thinking about it. i think the cause today was the thermostat on a heater hanging up........

Like Luna said fans work and I also have a bottle of water that I keep in the freezer just in case the temps get too high.. I drop it in when my tank hits 80-81 and it drops it down to 78 by the time it melts. I don't open it, just drop it in.

    Now that is efficiency! Cuttingras...

Genius idea, which it's kinda a no brainer but who would think of it.

We all have looked at Chillers and may only need the a couple days a year.

Cheap and it works!!! except for the days your not at home....
