well this is the whole point, if you werent looking to spend a ton of money you wouldnt waste money on such delicate creatures that need you to buy all that extra equipment. a simple saltwater tank with a few soft corals can easily be done under 500 dollars.

You keep your tank and I'll keep mine. I find softies boring and not worth the trouble. When I first got into this hobby, I could not fathom what was so special about a tank full of sticks... the more I learned, the better my system got, the higher the desire to have a tank full of sticks. I found them beautiful, fascinating, and challenging. I still do and I still have a dream tank floating around in my head. But right now, I have more important things to do. YMMV

the whole point of my commet is that it doesnt take a ton of money to have a saltwater tank. that doesnt include sps tanks. good for you that you find softies boring and your tank is full of sticks but that is besides the point. they take calcium reactors expensive filtration and even more expensive lighting. and if you dont want to keep those you dont have to have any of that. therefore cutting the price practically in half. it doesnt have to be expensive but many people including me have made it an expensive hobby over time.

But what is your goal... to have a tank of water in your room? You don't need salt water. You can do fresh for a fraction of the cost of salt and fill it with plastic plants and purple gravel. So what?

Every single hobby on the planet is the same way. You can hit golf balls in the desert with a $10 set of clubs you bought from a flea market... or you can spend thousands of dollars on what you like. How about RC stuff, or Jeeps, or dirt bikes, or bicycling... heck you can rid a bike for $50 or spend $10,000 on bike without an engine! We all get to spend our money how we see fit. In the end though... all hobbies are luxuries.
