So I was feeding my anemone and a silverside head fell to the side at the base of a piece of rock and the sand. Then the head began to be "drug" under the rock and I assume eaten. I know the thing was pulling hard because my scarlet skunk was in a tug of war with it for a little while. Any clue as to what this critter might be?

also there is a strange dusting around this particular rock (that looks like..well...dust), if that helps...maybe like something is excavating?

Most likely a crab of some sort, though thats just a guess;)

When did you last add any LR or coral frags to your tank? Might give an indication of old this creature is.

If it spends all its time under a rock it may be nocturnal? Try putting some food a few inches away from the rock after lights off. You might be able to get a good look at it.

I'm betting on the Loch Ness Monster.

    Just my opinion.

yea, i was fearing mantis...but then again ive been fearing that from day 1, lol. I think it might be a crab like suggested (i think i saw one in the rock about a month ago, but I didn't get a good look). I'll try to get him to come out at night so I can identify him.

I've had the rock for about three and a half months now

yeah i agree most likely some sort of crab, i have put food into a water bottle, then it goes into the water bottle, you grab the bottle and take it out, if its dangerous get rid of it, if not then you can put him back in

I'd probably be more worried about the crab. I've got a mantis in mine/raymann007's 2 gallon reject tank(1 damsel, crab, mantis shrimp) in our office. I'd take the mantis over the crab.Mantis shrimp(small) aren't as bad as you would think. I'd say you have a crab in your tank.

or either use a straight pin bent it into a fishhook like, then with some sowing thread baited
and fish it out of your tank, is fun!...lol and Ive done it before to get a red cardinal that was being a bully in my tank, eat 4 neon gobbies I had and almost drowned to collect
