My tank went from a beautiful piece of work, to something I cant even look at anymore. I dont even know what went wrong, but I blame it on myself. I dont know what I should do My tank was my pride and joy, and I almost want to cry while im talking about it. My tank is now filled with algae, somekinds that i dont even know what they are, I have GHA, Red slime, some neon green stuff, and others I cant explain, I have an extreme amount of bubble algae. I had one of my frogspawns die on me, a couple zoas, And im so scared that if I dont take it down soon all of my live stock will suffer and die. None of my corals open up anymore, but my clownfish, and damsel dont act any different. Ive tried so hard to keep my tank at its prime time. But ever since I got a fulltime job, and moved out to my bfs house (which i cant move my fishtank there), its been so ruff on me. I go home to my dads every other 2 days pretty much, to keep an eye on it, but nothing seems to work, it looks worse and worse every time.:cry::cry::cry::cry: I think it might be best for mine and my fish's sake for me to just take it down, and maybe try again later on when I can see it everyday. I think Ill try and bring in everything to the fish store and trade it in for cash, and whatever I can get for it put it away and save it, for when I try again :cry:

If you can't afford the time to care for the tank then you are doing the right thing.

dang that sucks. but you can bring it back, it can be done. bigger stronger faster.
Starting over does suck. I have buckets of skeletons in my back yard. but if the timing is not right then its not right. good luck with whatever you decide.

Sorry to hear about your tank. But it sounds like you really don't have the time right now. You can start again if your situation changes.

I went through something similar back in the mid eighties. The reef keeping hobby was very new and the technology wasn't what it is today. I started out great. My tank was beautiful. A work of art. I enjoyed working on it every weekend. Then the algae came. Nothing I did helped. It (algae) soon took over every inch of my tank. After about 6 years in the hobby, I had to give up. and took my tank down. I found out much later that the water in New York City was very high in phosphates. RO/DI was around but not very common. However, 12 years later, I'm back in the saddle again. Its much more fun the second time around. Sometimes you just have to take a break. This hobby takes a lot of time and money. So, you'll be back and I bet you will be much better prepared when yo return to the hobby. Good luck. Once a reefer always a reefer.
