So they say the world is basically going to end in 2012

Ever since I was a kid it has been, The winter solstice of 2012, according to the Mayan, calendar which is the most accurate calendar known to man... Weird that it was made thousand years ago and out of rock? According to the Maya the world has been destroyed and rebuilt numerous times... That date the all the planets in our solar system will be in alignment and in line with the center of the galaxy, according to astronomers this hasn't happened in over 20,000 years, and the potential gravitational pull would be incredible enough to take the earth out of orbit. What I wonder is how did these cultures figure this out?
I am not a the sky is falling guy, but when you look back on ancient cultures and what they accomplished with little to know technology, sometimes you have to really take a serious look at it. The other dates, such as 2000 and so one were just made up by recent conpiricists or other sky is falling people.
Take pyramids for example, they are found on every continent except Antartica. Many with the same dimensions. How could cultures seperated by time and space make similar structures when their cultures were so different?
Archeologists recently unearthed a pyramid in central America that is the same foot print of the Great Pyramid in Eygpt and is also on the cardinal points as is the great pyramid. That brings up a another point how does an ancient culture build a structure where all the edges are EXACTLY on North, East, South, and West? Thats pretty darn tricky even today!! Side note on the Great pyramid, recent research suggests that if the pyramid was really made in ~20 years as had been thought, that would mean the Eygptian workers would be quarrying, moving and setting a block in place every 9-13 SECONDS!!! How is that possible!?
I know I am getting off topic but this is only to solidify the vast intelligence of ancient people!! The Pyramid of the Snake... At sundown on the solstices the shadow cast moves down the pyramid than ends up on a rock carved to look like a serpents face... How can an ancient culture plan and build that? Solstice don't happen everyday?! So they need to plan over the course of years where the sun will be facing then create a structure in the PRECISE place to have the shadow fall on... Mind boggling to me!!

Lastly since I could go on all day, Puma Punku, this huge structure was built out of diorite, which is one of the strongest minerals on Earth... Also every block is cut IDENTICALLY, with a equidistant line cut in to it!! If you had a chisel and were cutting into one of the strongest minerals, you are going to tell me you would be able to cut a line, ~1cm wide, ~1cm deep, PERFECTLY STRAIGHT down the block as a guide line? No way. Also if these people had no written language how did they have plans to give to the quarriers/chislers to cut these blocks all identical!?? Makes you wonder....

Sorry for the tangent but even more than fish, ancient civilizations gets me going!!!

 

I also saw this commercial yesterday on Discovery. My wife and I looked at each other with amazement. I guess one more thing to worry about isnt going to kill us......lol Im speechless about the whole thing, I cant even put my feelings into words.

i would be more leary of the long count mayan calender coming to an end. they think the worlds coming to an end then. dec,21,2012. also is in conjunction with with the winters solstice. hmmmmm. lol

 

Well, its the Mayan calendar that the whole 2012 thing started. The others like 2000 started cause it seemed cool to scare people with the switch from 1999-2000, just like how all the computers were gonna crash and cars wouldn't work anymore. Many still think the world will end in an Armageddon similar to what is prophecised in many holy books but in my eyes a catacylsmic event similar to the entire universe is more likely then war... I know I can hear it now... What about al Qaeda and Isreal/Palestine or N Korea...? It would take a lot more nukes to destroy the world than what was first thought. Plus, I could be wrong but if there is major issue where say the US gets Nuked, we are not going to unleash all of our thousands of nukes on everyone, its just not going happen.

 

+1 I'm a history buff and have heard this theory myself. Last time in south america with my wife we got to see one of the calendar. Would be interesting to see if Planet X actually exists and will come through the solar system.

I have my own theory about that but, I'm not going to get going and bore all of you

 

it's simple.

 

It is not only the Mayan calendar. What makes it very interesting, is there is about 3-4 ancient calendars that all point to December 21, 2012 as being the end. And NONE of the ancient civilizations that did predict that, could have ever met each other and communicated it.
And technically, none of them say the world is going to end. It is the beginning of it's rebirth. We will simply end ;D
And, we do know something may happen. All of the planets of the solar system, from our Earths perspective, become in perfect alignment on that very day, something that has never happened before. Who knows what may happen?
I personally just make sure I keep my stock of ammo high, and HOPE in the least people flip out and start rioting. If I am going out, I wanna have some fun on the way...
