    Hello
I am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on skimmers. I am setting up a 300 gallon system. A 250 gallon tank and a 50 gallon sump. I've used in the past a Berlin turbo. I'm thinking about a turboflotor, I am just starting to do a little research and have not got that much feed back yet. So if you have anything to add that would be great.

    Thanks
    David;D

You will need something larger than a turbofloater to handle that size tank. Check out Euroreef, ASM, Aqua C EV series, MRC among others. Probably all skimmers are way over rated on their specified tank size. Good luck, it sounds like your gonna have a hell of a nice system!

yep bigger is needed, i have a turboflotor on my 55 gallon, but you can get the bigger aquamedics. currently i have already bought a asm g6 on my future 300 gallon, and that is rated for 1800 gallons!!! overkill? maybe but i believe it is better to overskim. do some more research on what kind of skimmer you want (NW, beckett, downdraft, etc) each has pros and cons.

YEah the Turboflotor is rated up to 250 gallons but I think that is a pipe dream. They overate all skimmers it seems. I'd be comfortable using it up to a 125 or 150. You'd have to install a drain if it were on a 250 and I think it would get way too dirty too fast.

It works well on my 20 long though. :)
    Great skimmer.

Yeah, One of my LFS sells MRC skimmers and they look like beasts. Very well made with thick acryllic and large foot print. They would do well in a 300g system.

I just checked Ebay, there's an MRC-3 for sale. I think the bid is about $195

If you don't get the monster skimmer, you may want to use two smaller-capacity skimmers (assuming you have room, enough power outlets, etc.). Like having two heaters, having two skimmers doing the same job adds a layer of redundancy (in a good way) because one will be working even if there is a problem with the other.
