Two days ago I added my new reef octopus reactor with Dr. Tim's biopellets. As recommended in other discussions I have read I put only ~1/4 the biopellets needed to start with. The next day my toadstool and yellow finger leather were all shrunken up however my zoas and mushrooms seem fine. All hard corals are fine as well. I know I have read where biopellets can affect softies but that quickly??? I have also just added new t5 lighting and 2 vortech mp40s but had these in the tank days before I put in the reactor and those two softies were doing great. I also have read where several people have posted you can maintain softies with biopellets but they won't thrive and grow. (should probably add part of the reason I added biopellets as I am hoping to add more sps to the tank)

    Here are parameters:
    Salinity 1.021
    Ph 8.2
    Amm 0
    Nitrite 0
    Nitrate 10
    Cal 340
    Mag 1160
    PO3 2.0

Purchased reactor to help battle nitrate and phosphate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

are the leathers growing? They will shrivel up and look like it is dead, shed its skin and be fine.

make sure the pellets are simmering in your reactor

Yeah I am not sure how accurate my po3 reading....I have an old outdated test kit but new one has been ordered and is on its way. I am working on cal as we speak as well and ordered a BRS 2 part dosing system. My parameters are all a bit off as I am just starting to bounce back from tank crash caused by bad kent carbon. Do you recommend adding GFO until biopellets take hold??

    +1

1.021 is only good for FO tanks. A reef should be maintained at 1.024 - 1.026 for the long-term health and survivability of corals and inverts.
