Just updated my algae turf scrubber vid on youtube. I can't express how much this has helped my tank. I no longer need a chiller, It destroyed all the hair algae that was in my tank. It is now right up there on must have pieces of equipment. Right there with my protein skimmer.

    Love it

That is fantastic. Great job! :thumbs_up:clapping:

That ATS is cranking out the gunk in the sun.

I love your moxy for the idea - saying 'this would work great outside, all I need to do is drill through the wall..' and actually doing it. :) K+ for that.

The ATS is brilliant, the only thing I'd add is a 3-sided dark acrylic box or some kind of cover for the sump to block light, keep critters out, reduce heat and evaporation.

A similar cover for the RO unit too. You don't want algae growing in that.

Man that is cool. Nice work.

I live in jamaica and it's sunny year round mostly. There is a little lip over my two story roof that shelters the ATS. If any rain gets in it's not much. Think of it like negative evaporation. It's been outside for a year and I've been through 2 rainy seasons and there has never been a problem.

As for temperature. Before I put this in I used to have a chiller than would run all day just to keep the tank at 80degs. Since I put this in and placed it where there is a cool breeze almost every day...... I'm disconnected my chiller. Evaporation is a mother when it comes to cooling..... The only time my tank ever went over 80 degrees was before I covered those black tubes in foil to reflect the light.... I know it's ghetto but guess what... it works like a charm. I have RODI inline so even though I have massive evaporation I can forget about salinity shifts. Costs me nothing anyway.

Believe me or not but at nights the temperature drops so much I'm not thinking about a chiller. I'm thinking about putting in a heater. :s Go figure... you can never win.

I move all noisy equipment outside, filter my tank by growing alage with sunlight and cool the tank with the island breeze.
