I am sure you have all seen them, the little led lights people use to line their driveways. I had a bunch of them that needed replacing this year as they had been hit with my kids car and the lawn mower too many times. I started to think that maybe they would make great moonlights. They are solar with the dark sensor on them. THey switch off automatically when the actinics come on in the morning and charge up with teh halides hitting them durring the day. When the lights go off they come back on again, their brightness gradually fading throughout the night. I have two of these right now and they create a very cool lighting effect at night. Just thought i'd share this with everyone. They are a helluva lot cheaper than the mooonlights systems out there, and they dont take up an outlet so no wires to run!!!. I'm sure everyone has at least a couple of these lights they have run over!!!!!
    Anyone think of any drawbacks?

Yeah good point point Matt. Not everyone even runs LED moonlights. As long as they are low wattage LEDs, they'll probably be fine. The moonlight spectrum is not important, because the corals that require light to live are benefitting from the use the daylight and actinic spectrums of your primary tank lighting. The moonlights are more for asthetics. Some people claim the lunar cycles are important for fish and coral spawning, etc... but there isn't enough research on this yet that I could ever find. It's a big bag of mixed opinions.

right! they are low wattage, you can only really tell they are on when all other lights in the room are out. Gives a really cool shimering effect though as they are single point.

LOL and I was thinking that there was a whole new spectrum that I had to research!
