I have a 72G Bowfront Tank. About 120 pounds of sand I think can't remember. 70+ Pounds of Live rock, Rena Xp3 canister filter, seaclone 150 skimmer, and a hob emperor 400 biowheel filter.

Now I recently started working for Chacha and have $250 bucks to spend. Was wondering what should I invest in for better filtration.

    1. More live rock. Marco rocks is selling base rock at 1.09 a pound which is sweet.

    2. More sand I have a sand bed that is 2 inches deep if that. maybe a lil bit more.

    3. get rid of the emperor and build a refugium with a bunch of algae for nitrate scrubbers.

    4. Get rid of the canister flter, and the emperor and build a sump.

The last one is kinda pricey so its sort of a last resort.

Is it a Fish only or mixed reef ? Tank connected to a sump ? if not thats where I'd start then more base rock I have no filtration at all except for some passive floss and carbon the skimmer out let flow's through. You could lose the canisters unless you just like to clean them every few days or week ? And set up a refugium

I would build a sump and a hob refugium. These can be set up for not much money. Rubbermaid containers make great sumps. The biggest cost is the pump. It increases your water and is great for building up a pod population if you have any or interested in getting any fish that are picky eaters like the manderins.

its safe to cross off option 1 and 2 you don't need any more of either(unless you want more rock for aesthetics).

I have a mixed reef tangs, clown fish, green chromis, purple pseudochromis, neon goby, and a bunch of zo's and ricordeas.

I have no sump at the moment.

So my best choice would be to get rid of the emperor and the canister filter and go for a fuge and sump cool thanks.

I vote for a sump and possibly a better skimmer.

All you will need is a 10 Gal for the sump and a 5.5 for the fuge I have a Buddy in N.Y on Long Island he asked me how to set it up in 99 and its been running like a charm since .. Oceanics Reef ready Bow front sump and fuge and he used all base rock as I do and he had about 100 lbs I sent him another 75 or so I had laying around . It all sat under the tanks cabinet .
Yes and you can sell the filter off won't be needed .

SO a 10 and a 5.5. the 5.5 I assume would go inside the 10 and act as the refugium. You wouldn't have a set of plans, diagram that would help me build it
