Today my wife and I took a Pacific Whale Foundation snorkel cruise out to Molokini followed by a short trip to Turtle Town. A couple days ago we did a shore snorkel in Honolua Bay.

Honolua was amazing for a shore snorkel/dive. Wonderful reef structure and we saw a ton of fish (it's a sanctuary), huge coral heads, etc. We saw a ton of Orange Shoulder Tangs, Kole Tangs, various triggers, a nice-sized Moray Eel, Naso Tangs, Unicorn Tangs, Yellowfin Tangs, Moorish Idols, a ton of wrasses and more. Tangs galore! Unfortunately no pics.

Molokini is a few miles off the Maui coast and is half of an old volcanic crater. You knew it was going to be good when within a minute of jumping in we saw a 5' Moray in about 50' of water. Not to mention the visibility was 200'! Just amazing. One of the coolest things were the huge numbers of Hawaiian Black Trigger Fish who just hung out around us as we snorkeled. I guess they were waiting for a handout. We saw lots of Yellow Tangs, some Blue Throat Triggers, Parrot Fish, Vlamingi Tangs, Unicorn Tangs, Moorish Idols and a bunch more.

After Molokini we went to Turtle Town which is an area centered around some old lava tubes that are now a wonderful reef. True to its name we saw a number of turtles on top of a ton of fish.

Here are the crappy pics from a crappy Fuji water proof camera.

A couple of Ring Tail Surgeonfish. I'd never heard of these before and had to look them up:

I think this is a Hawk Fish. It was perched on the reef until I came close.

Sounds like you had a good time. I did the same snorkel trip years ago when I was in Maui. Such a great experience, loved it. Got stung by a jellyfish on the face when I was in Molokini though, that was fun.
