Change the bulb and you should be okay. My take on a fuge is to get the pod population up (reason for having one). The pods have their own environment to populate and yes they will make their way to the dt. Another reason for the fuge is to increase water volume and add algaes to help with water quality, but I'm sure you knew that give you have a fuge on your system.

The pods will thrive in chaeto as well, I have lots of them in the chaeto that is in the sump.

I have a 14,000K led clip on light on my H.O.B. fuge that is on my 29 gallon that is doing a nice job growing chaeto but not caulerpa. Does anybody have a LED that will grow grape caulerpa? I know it does fine with a CF bulb but it all died under my LED.

i have LED's in my DT and my caulerpa started dying too, i put it in the fuge with a 6500k CF and it's making a great comeback. Not sure why it'd start to die in the DT, maybe too much light? I have 3 x 19w Panorama Pro LED modules

thats all i ever did starfish, once a week take out the cheato ball and shake the heck out of it in your DT, that will easily replenish your population in no time... plus all the junk feeds your corals...and its free
