We're dealing in an area of light where it takes equipment to measure the changes in brightness. I'd highly recommend playing with the lighting as I agree with everything that's been said in this post. Failing that do a full batch of water tests and post in ASAP.

Your lighting schedule seems okay, I'd turn the 12K lights down to 6 hours per day. But I'm not sure that it would make much of a difference.
No the T5's are not much brighter than the MH. Technically only about 6watts more. But it's still a lot of light due to the fact that the tank is only 16"H and over 5watts per gallon.
Is there any way to suspend the lights from the ceiling rather than sitting on the tank itself?
Anyone else care to chime in on this one?

Yes, when you change light, it must be incremental and done slowly and give the coral time to acclimate to them. Also, you added a refugium which is replete with new life and thus changes the water chemistry. So, in my opinion, you shocked the tank and it will take time for it to adjust. Feed the coral with phyto or oyster to help them along.
The issue of metal halide being "brighter" is not the issue rather it is one of spectrum of which the T5 (depending on the combo of bulbs) could be much different.

+1 this happened to me. I've accidentally bleached SPS from my T5's from coral that came from being under a 450W Halide system. The spectrum can shock the coral. I just also recently added a fuge to my tank. After a few days a lot of coral closed up. They will adjust. Prob take about a week for them to perk back up. Your whole water chemistry has changed.. for the better too! MY coral is looking a lot better.. Been 2 weeks since I added my fuge.

You guys have been a big help on this. I guess I will just keep an eye on things and hopefully everything will come back. Maybe I should have waited a few weeks to add the fuge?
Homegrown, that rock came from the original tank. It was the only red rock of the bunch so I didnt use it, just figured It would be a good piece for the fuge.

I think adding the fuge will be one of the best things for your tank.. now they just have to adjust!
