I am starting to see some of the benefits of working part time at a LFS ;) I brought home tonight a Hawaiian Male Flame wrasse and a lollypop tunicate (AKA Blue Palm Coral)

The wrasse has been at the store for a couple days, has been very active, out in the open and eating like a little piggie! I couldnt resist with the discount (Besides they are just taking it out of my paycheck)

Only problem is that because of the wrasse I had to put the glass tops back on my tank  but I did not want to risk that puppy jumping!

Lollypop tunicates are non-photosynthetic and filter feeders. They will shed their little white caps during their growth, produce a slime layer over them for protection and then regrow them. My LFS have had them in the past, but I could not see spending that much money on one. Plus they have always mislabled them as Blue Strawberry corals, which they are not....

    here is the lollypop tunicate

the flame wrasse...I added him after my lights were off so will get better pics when they are on. This is actually a bad picture...his coloring is really a lot better in real life

Finally I got this large pokerstar for a birthday present. It is beautiful...but again it was taken after lights were out. (Shhh....we bought it at a new LFS that just opened...very cool store!)

    thanks

they were still debating the price for it as it just came in, but they were throwing around 79.00 for it retail, which is what they had been selling the others for when they had them. I do have to admit that the others that they had were a lot smaller and had dropped its caps as during shipping

I did see them online aquacon.com has them in currently. I think I saw them a few other places also.

As Melissa pointed out, even though they are often called a coral, they are a colonial ascidian tunicate. They are very hard to keep and I would consider them "expert-only" as their feeding requirements are pretty high and you also have to have excellent filtration to remove the excess food or you'll end up with a tank full of algae.

Nice hawaiian flame wrasse! Did you get a good deal on it?

I was >< this close to buying a trio of Hawaiian flame wrasses(1 male and 2 females) from a diver that a guy in our club knows. The price was awesome, but I had better things to buy than fish, so I had to pass.
