So, stopped by the lfs (not really local, but anywho) today and was looking at their live rock, and stock. Some really good looking mandarins, naked clowns, etc.

Question #1: Saw that in most of their tanks there were aiptasia and I'm wondering if I should even entertain the idea of buying live rock from them. There were none in the live rock tank, but all over the stock tanks there were. So should I even bother?

Question #2: Moved to a new apartment, have basically 0 room for an RODI system. Was wondering if the mighty-mite from Air, Water & Ice would be a good alternative to the full size RODI units on the market. It's a 50gpd w/ DI as well. Granted it's a non-refillable type di canister iirc. Just wondering if anyone has had experience with it.

thanks in advance and all options and opinions are welcome.

as far as the aiptasia goes I would say no, I am still trying to get rid of it in my tank.

as far as the rodi unit Air,Water, and ice are a good company. you may find yourself wanting more than 50 GPD but then again if you cant go full sized I would try for the next best thing. my 2 cents

I figured the 50gpd would be great because it's small, easily hide-able, and I'll only have a 10g or possibly a 20g tank at the new place. Assuming i get the go ahead from my significant other. So, weekly water changes would be at most 2 gallons on a 10, and 5 gallons on the 20.

So, no to the live rock at the lfs. I'll probably ring up BRS and grab some of their dry base rock, and see if any of my friends locally can spare a small chunk of live rock.

And so far the mighty-mite seems to be my best option. I'd prefer to have a refillable DI section, but I suppose I could always add that in at a later date.

ninja edit: On second though, if I go with the 20L, I'd probably have another 20L as a sump, so perhaps I should try to figure out how to get a normal RODI unit.

If you have the money, invest in the RO/DI unit. It will truly be one of your best investments for the hobby in the long run.

Don't get the live rock from the store, base rock from brs I was happy I did it this way. as far as rodi if you have room for a five gallon bucket for top off you have room for a rodi unit just use a quick conect and put it in a closet when not using it, thats what I do. But, seeing as I have never seen your apartment do what works for you.

ya if you buy any live rock from any lfs it will likely have bad stuff like aiptasia. the best is to buy dry rock that way you know it's clean. I recommend brs or marco rocks.

Yeah, this is a 3rd floor apartment. I literally have 3 cabinets throughout the whole kitchen and bathroom. lolz. The sink is in a metal cabinet (of all things from the 50's most likely) with no valves to shut the water off too. So no go there. Bathroom i might be able to sneak it in, but like I said, it's a super small space. Can't have a permanent install due to being an apt, but, shouldn't be a huge problem using one of the faucet adapters.

Now, suggestions on how to convince a gf that it's a cool thing to have? roflmao.

Get a unit with a drinking water kit and it should be an easy sell since you are doing it for her health ;)
