What is this? The strands are very thin.

(I hope someone tells me this stuff isn't bad, so I don't have to yank this rock out of my tank, lol!)

Are you talking the red on the upper right? Looks similar to red calcerous algae but also similar to a brown....can't think of the name right now. I will stop thinking about my new skimmer and try to remember it!!

    Shouldn't be a problem though!

Some hitchhiked in on some coral pieces I bought. It didn't expand and some hermits and emerald crabs ate most of it.

The furry purple-y reddish stuff in the center. It's kind of a burgundy color in person.

Hi< that looks just like the algae i have at the bottom off my tabks and people have told me its cyano. I got a freebe hermit on one off my mushroom stones and the hermits shell had A little patch off it but a few days after i added the hermit to my tank it pasted away and the shell was left at the bootom of my tank. The cyano then spead from the shell all over my tank and its now covered in a purple carpet!
    Hope this helps!

Nope, neither one of the red growths in the pic is cyano. One is flat and hard, and the other has very fine strands, and is very bushy. I'm stumped.

The reason why i said cyano is it looks the same as the stuff in the bottom off my tank! Its the same colour purple and is like a felt carpet with stringy bits flowing from it. The discription & picture is the same as my stuff
    Thanks K
