Some sort of tube worm? (I hope)

    As the title says, it's my best guess but just wanting confirmation. I've never seen it take any other form (extend anything else; just that transparent bubble).

    It looks like a tunicate settled around a spionid tube worm.

    Yes. The bubble is an egg mass. Inwall made a good guess when he said spionid. If it isn't a spionid it's at least something related.

    Would you mind if I downloaded the pic & used for it teaching?

    Thanks for the responses.

    I guess I didn't really mention a scale, but the diameter of the tube is about 1/4". Doing some quick research, it appears this isn't much to be worried about?

    Not at all. The worst that can happen is that you'll have lots more spionids to join your clean-up crew.
