So I have a 30 gallon tank that has been a fish only tank for about 6 months now. The tank is doing awesome and Ive had no issues. All water parameters are almost perfect. I want to start adding corals now for my reef tank. What suppliments do I need to buy and what would be an easy coral to start with? BTW I have a compact lighting system with 2 blue antic bulbs and 2 10000K white bulbs.

I would stick with some softies... as far as additives, shouldnt have to add anything directly, especially for softies. Easy corals to start with are basic mushrooms, frogspawn does pretty well if you want something a little more "flashy". Lighting should be decent for basic softies. I would not recommend any hard corals though.

yea I figured I would start with a softy. I was actually looking at a frogspawn. If I get them, wuts the best to feed them.

I typically feed my entire tank with marine cuisine.. they catch it as it flies by.
I have two heads of frogspawn for probably a couple months now... I have never target fed them.. and both heads are currently about done splitting :)

you don't HAVE to feed them..but if you want..you can feed them brine shrimp..just turn your pumps off..shew away any fish..then squirt a few onto it's tentacles

edit: this is just for the frogspawn..not the softies

T5's are the way to go, or even Halides, or maybe a mix of both just depends on what u want to spend and what u want to keep

well I want to setup a nice reef tank with a mixed variety of corals. Eventually I might move to a 55 gallon tank but I want to make sure my 30gallon runs good first

theres lots of ways to avoid spending a lot of money in this hobby..mainly by diy stuff..with lights you could build your own canopy and just get a retrofit kit for either t5's or halides..there's pros and cons to each type of light..just do some research and find out which type suits your needs then check places like ebay and craigslist..a lot of people are tearing down their tanks so there is probably quite a bit out there

I was thinking about converting my compact to an led setup. Instead of using reflectors, I have alot of stainless sheet metal laying around
