i have a 125. this coral came from a 55 then was put into my 47 for a week or two, then moved into my 125. i am gettin rid of the 47. i have 175w 10k metal halide directly over it. i try to keep up with supps but i dont do as well as i should. is there a particular supp i should be using for this coral? also it has small polyp like things that open all over it. is this just the coral opening? and how much should it stay open? thanks a lot bruce

Don't add iodine unless you test for it. I am not sure that it really gives stony coral any advantage...just softies.

Looks like Pagoda or Cup coral, like Bruce said. It is considered a Large Polyp Stony or LPS...I don't have one of those perhaps Bruce could answer, but the majority of my LPS feed at nite..putting out feeder tentacles after lights out. :)

They (pagoda cups) can feed at any time really, mine used to always have it's polyps out.

Like BL said, there isn't a major need to dose iodine, unless your test shows otherwise. Some softies love the addition, but other things don't. You may want to read up on just what iodine is used for (all uses). It'll help your understanding of it's potential downfalls.

I would counter Bruces statement by saying, alkalinity and calcium, in that order, are the most important parameters to watch and dose.
