My children have hobbies too. So my son loves paintball. O.K. that isn't to bad on the bank account. Getting started as with anything is the biggest expense, although those darn balls can get up there in price. Well my daughter has found that she loves riding horses. The up front cost? At fisrt not to bad. We used a friends horse for her to get used to. Now that she has progressed I have to pay for lessons. Oh my gosh! Now she wants all the proper clothes. She is going to be showing in a few months so that means I have to fork out hundreds for clothes that she will only get to use when she shows, but that also has its own costs. The fees to show aren't to bad if you only do it once a month. Do you know what the show charges you to keep your horse there? We don't even own a horse, yet. Yes, everything is all about the children. I will not keep them from there dreams and happyness. My husband thought getting my reef tank up and running was expensive and now he thinks nothing of the prices. He just reminds me that I need to think of the kids college fund everytime I look at things for the tank.

That is so true. My daughter is also very much into horses, I guess I should add dolphins in their as well. She wants to be a marine biologist or along those lines. She also has a reef tank. She is 12 years old which is the funny thing.
Yes, I need to think about my 3 kids and their college! Maybe the three of them could skip college and work on my fish tanks for a job!???hahahaha
    I don't think so!
Well good luck with the joys and expenses that accompany children!
Good luck with your tank as well!

Thanks. I hope my kids get scholarships because my tank just started to cycle. Mommy needs more LR and lots of cool stuff. No, really I am proud of my children and I want to give them everything I can. It my seem far away for them to move out but that day will be here before I am ready. We just can't seem to find a hobby that we love that is also free or at least cheap. Ha!Ha!

All I can say about this is ROAD TRIPS. My family use to take long road trips to various places when I was growing up. Yeah its a pain in the butt to drive there, but the memories will last a lifetime. I just wish now I wasnt such a pain the bum to my parents on the way there and back. Some of the trips, I wish I would have payed more attention cause now I wanna go back, lol. This past summer we had the chance to take a road trip(my little family) I knew it was going to be demanding cause our little girl was like 9months old, but I figured we could start her out young, lol. We went to a cabin on the lake in ME. Had a blast there, took her to the ocean a few times, she had a blast too, and she got to meet her great grandfather for the first time. But yeah, thats a 21hr drive for me. Gladly do it again.

Kids grow up quick, and it seems like yesterday I watched her pop out of her momma(which was rather nasty to watch by the way.) And now shes almost 15 months old. And I look forward to more road trips with her and her momma!

The day my son was born my parents were there and I looked at them a I apologized for everything I ever did. That list was quite long! How did they put up with me? Now I know.

    Yes they do!!!
Road trips are a good way to spend quality time with your kids as they don't have the distraction of the tv etc. to preoccupy them. It can be a learning experience and alot of fun as well.
Just when it comes to I have to go to the bathroom or are we there yet every 5 minutes or so, it gets rather old quick!! hahahaa

Thats why you turn it into a few trips into one. We stopped of fin DC for a couple days on the way up, my little girl loved the National Zoo in DC. The good thing about DC is EVERYTHING is pretty much free. All of the National Museums are free. We stopped in boston and toured around for about half a day on the way up too. The trip home, I drove strait, lol, I really wanted to get home, 21hrs only stopping for food and gas, and of course potty breaks.
