So im on my second conch now because in the past month 2 have been killed. This morning I woke up and found a big nassarious snail on the conch eating inside the conch shell. Wondering if anyone may have any suggestions on what might be killing them. Inverts in tank (like 8 small hermits, 1 small emerald, 1 pep shrimp, couple snails) I know this will most likely remain a mystery.

the hermits could be the culprit if looking for a larger shell, ive seen cleaner shrimp go for snails before so maybe peppermint shrimp but unlikely due to their size.....but most likely culprit if hermits arent looking for a larger shell would be the emerald

Might throw the crab in the other tank cause the conch s are way cooler and do a good job

lol whatever works, my emerald always left my snails alone and was great with my bubble algae

IME, conchs keep their foot buried at all times (this probably depends on the species though) and only ever have their shell popping out. In other words, out of access to hermits. So I have a slightly hard time believing it was the crabs (but I wouldn't dismiss it either).

I assume you have a sand substrate and not CC right? How old is the tank? It may just not be getting enough to eat.

tank is 7 months old. none of my conchs in either tanks (1 per tank) have stayed under sand all the time. This one that just got ate has only been in the tank for a week and climbed everything, rocks, glass, etc.
    And yes sand substrate.
