Test for copper and/or iodine. Those two things can wipe out inverts in a hurry.

I agree could be molts or I have seen when they molt they are very soft. Another crab could of hurt or killed it.

Yes, that is how they grow. All crabs, shrimps, lobsters, etc... Snails grow their shell..

I think they must be molting, since I have only ever had roughly 4-5 hermits and i have seen about 3-4 dead bodies and i currently still have at least 3 that i can see. Must be molts... still that cave/dugout thing is awfully nerve recking to think what could be lurking in there.....

Hmm, the hole is odd. From the pic the hole looks big.. I have see some fish, crabs, mantis, & pistol shrimp do them as well.

Here's an idea. For some odd reason we always forget that the bottom of the tank is clear. Unless you're rocking a retro old slate bottom one. Depending on your bedding thickness. If you poke your head under your tank & look up, you'll be amazed at what you'll see. Worm, tunnels, etc... You might be able to see what is living in the hole, if anything.

Thats a great idea, cant look up though since the tanks on a wooden stand. Well woke up to a complete mess this morning my powerhead somehow lost suction and ended up pointing straight at the sand stirring my sand up everywhere. I tried wisping it off and got most of it, but unfortunately its not totally different depths all over the tank. hopefully when i get my CuC it all evens out. I also hope that this hasnt messed up all my parameters.

Ah, that sucks!!! I know how you feel. I just filled my 90gal with saltwater & sand for the first time & my tank looks like a snow globe right now.
