Picked up this nice little piece of favia last night, and noticed something living in/on it. That cigarette burn looking thing in the upper portion of the pic is a trap door of sorts, and inside it looks like a slug. It throws some cobweb looking stuff that it reels in after awhile to check whats on it (i guess?)

Any idea of what it could be? Is it something I should get rid of, or just let it be?

    Thanks.

    ~Will.

cool, thanks for the ID. Still not sure weather or not to jab a screwdriver in there or not to get rid of this thing . . . i'm not a fan of the mucus web.

I have one on my monti. To this day has not hurt a thing. When I feed the tank it will collect food and pull it in to eat

Live and let live. Some people pay money for various types of mechanical filtration that this little guy is doing for free

You can send him to me. I'll gladly take him.

I pester my LFS for various worms/stomatellas/etc I find in their frag tank. They let me critter hunt and just laugh at what I find and take with me :D

That is a nice coral. Vermitids can get annoying. I have a couple of zoo frags that have several vermitids on them. When their mucus we slings out of their tube, it makes all my zoos that it touches close up. I have noticed similar reactions with my candy canes too. When I see one, I snap it off with my finger. I have been cut twice by those stupid things. They are a part of the food chain, but will irritate certain corals.

I get these worms that stick out some long feelier tongue....not a web. They've been making their tubes out of sand in the tank and the tubes look almost like ant hills.
