I am wanting to do some research and have a little family project to start when school gets going again. I would like to get some Dwarf Seahorses that were captive breed. Where are some places or some people that have them for sale and have a good reputation for health etc. I have already started to plan the little home they will be in. It is a 3 gallon deco pico. I am super excited. Now I just need the live stock :)

As well as Dan Underwood at SS, there is pekasponies.com, and seahorsecorral.com where I'm importing 50 dwarfs and 50 erectus from next month once the cites paperwork comes through.
It's wise to start decapping, hatching and enriching the brine shrimp now so you have a handle on it BEFORE you get the dwarfs. If it becomes problematic with brine shrimp then after getting the seahorses is too late to find out.
The ones that Dana sells at ccritters are all wild caught as far as I know.

It's always nice to have a new source of captive bred seahorses, BUT, you need to know what you are recommending.
With all due respect for them in that they are a sponsor I believe, but their prices are outrageous to begin with (like Ocean Rider), especially with premiums for colours that most times don't remain when you put them in your own tanks, and for cirri (which I believe they misspell) that often disappear as the seahorse matures.
It would also be nice if they called the seahorses for what they are, H. erectus, or H. reidi as the cases may be.
Some of their information on their site is outdated old school info when compared to long term keepers that frequent seahorse.org.
I'm not implying their stock is not quality stock by all of this as I'm sure it is excellent, but if you check out the competition as listed above, especially with the highest rated seahorsesourc.com with Dan and Abbie Underwood, why would anyone want to pay those prices when you can buy for much less at the three sites mentioned already?

Thanks for the recommendations all!! Oh and don't worry I shop around :) and this will not be the first feed back I read before I buy. I am very very picky when it comes to price and quality. I work on and off for one of the sponsors here but I would never indorse him unless I was 100% impressed ;)
    lol
That being said Matt can't help it cause he runs a forum with tons of sponsors which he must "endorse" at all times :) He's just doing his job. *Respect to Matt and All the others who are helping me in the right direction ;D

rayjay sounds like you mostly have problems with their prices. Some people will pay more for quality, so that might be worth a look if it is there. Do you have any experience with them to say 'yay' or 'nay?' I said to check them out as they are a new sponsor. That is a lot different that 'recommending.'

EDIT - THAT said, I do hear where you are coming from... I am working to get their own board here to answer questions... perhaps you can make some recommendations to clean up their site.

Exorbitant pricing doesn't mean quality Matt.
I would be unable to say anything about quality as I live in Canada and they don't ship out of country. As I said, I would expect their quality to be equal to any of the other captive bred breeders in the US.
The only one I can buy from is seahorsecorral.com and I have an order placed already for 100 seahorses from them to come to me next month when the cites paperwork gets through.
Quality can be there or not regardless of pricing.
The sites mentioned above already have the quality reputation, ESPECIALLY seahorsesource.
They only have to read (and probably already have) seahorse.org to know that their site could use updating.
As for the naming, Ocean Rider does the same thing, giving fancy names to seahorses exhibiting various colours/characteristics, and charging more for them.
They have excellent quality but again, mislead new hobbyists into thinking they are getting something special.
Unfortunately some people thing that higher pricing means higher quality regardless of whether or not it truly is.

I am not saying high prices = quality. I am saying some would pay more if so, and you should not dismiss a company completely based on price or because you haven't read about them on seahorse.org. I said check them out as they are a new sponsor - and that is where I am leaving this.

Now it would certainly be nice if we could hear from people who have purchased from them.
In keeping with paying more for quality theme, buying true captive bred costs more than buying "tank raised" but it is definitely worth it.
