I ran the defrag. I am not sure it worked. When I woke it windows it said it recovered from a serious disk error. :p

I hope this didn't erase the steps to do a system restore. But I think it might have now that I think about it? :p

Fletch - as far as the font trick, I would like to try that but I can't read the menus and I don't know what tab is which. Take a look at the attachment below.

    Oh man.

Matt it's the second one in the top pull down. not sure that helps

I would attempt to clean up a bunch of stuff you need 15% free space to defrage. if you can get that I would first force a scan disk

    Matt,

The one that you're showing is the "Screensaver" tab. Click each tab in the window you are showing until you see 3 rectangular boxes on the left and 2 smaller ones on the right. This is the "Appearance" tab and this is where you want to be. The extreme bottom right is the "Advanced" box. Click that one. It should open a second window.

In the newly opened window you should see 2 rectangular boxes bottom left. The extreme bottom left is the FONT options and right above it is the ITEM options.

    Don't worry......we'll get the SUCKA!!

If you're going to defrag or scandisk, always do it in "Safe Mode". You want no programs running in the backround.

Thanks. I was able change all the items there to system font. This fixed my icons on my desktop! :) However, my toolbar display and my program list in the start menu are still wacked with symbols instead of text. So is everything in the display properties menu. :-/

EDIT - THIS IS INTERESTING. MY C:\WINDOWS\FONTS FOLDER IS EMPTY! I recall having over 500 fonts. Um.... what now? ACTUALLY, when I mouse over the folder it says it is 64k, perhaps it is just not showing me the windows files? not sure.

    Do the following:

    Click:
    Start
All programs (Green arrow pointing right)
Accessories (should be the first item right below the faint grey line)
System tools (this is the only option with a little arrow and with two words)
System restore (little screen with a clock)
