    Upgrade

My windows XP is an upgrade disc so I'd have to reinstall windows 98 then install the upgrade again. I reallllyyy don't wan't to go through that. :p

Matt, start or boot with the upgrade disc, it will then ask you to put in your 98 disc during install process.

Good to know. Thanks Newton. I may do that. But not this weekend. :)

So my system scan didn't find any viruses.

I rebooted and my fonts got zapped again.

I reinstalled them and this time I got my start button and clock back. 8)

So it looks pretty normal except for some system fonts which I had changed.

Can someone take a quick look at what fonts you use for icons and menus in your display properties and let me know what they are? I'd like to change mine back.

    See attached.

Thanks again for all the help. I think I am out of woods for now. I will back stuff up though asap. 8)

Yeah Matt You don't have to install 98 First Like newton27 Said just use the xp upgrade CD and it will ask you for the 98 CD at some point in the install just to confirm that you have the 98 disc.......... Good luck Matt

Always Back up your system to a separate hard drive that way you can just reinstall everything from there. John

    Antivirus

Thanks for the antivirus software link Newton! I havent had an updated antivirus scan in a long time and that one found a trojan and something unintelligible to me. I appreciate it.

Well Matt like I said, if you don't do the anti virus or restore, your system will never be fixed the way your approaching it...looking for the font file will not change the system. Your problem lies with the corrupted files and is caused by a virus. Did this activity happen suddenly or over a period of time.

The AVG software has found many viruses that my paid for versions of norton missed! I noticed something about ad adware being run, this will not cause this problem either.

One more very important question. Is your computer updated, Microsoft Updates?

I am still here. Just a little sleepy. :)

Thanks sssnake for the font list.

Keep in mind this happened after aborting a defrag and deleting temporary files that the system recommended. This leads me to believe that my actions had something to do with this and it is not necessarily a virus.

System has had all microsoft updates.
