I have seen a lot of people trying to get Southdown sand. If you know why it is so desired, would you mind posting some details here?

I've decided that I want a deeper sandbed and I am going with the Southdown . So I call HomeDepot and Lowes and niether of them carry Southdown or YardRight! im_pissed I also tried Ace and a few local joints and nada! They all say that it isn't in this region(Wa State).

I'm hoping that maybe you all have some ideas. Right now I am thinking that I can buy it from JustPhish http://www.justphish.com/drygoods/southdownsand.htm or something and then ship it.

    Thanks for your ideas,

A lot of people order sand from here:

    http://www.purearagonite.com

Not as white as SD, but it probably doesn't blow around as much either...

Southdown has gone out of business..and home depot's will now be carrying this...the same product..different bag.

Scroll through their products to find their all natural playsand.

I just got back from my lunch break with 240 lbs. of yardright tropical play sand. The Home Depot here still carries the YardRight labeled stuf. Stange thing is only one particular HD here stocks the stuff and the other local HDs don't have it, go figure. Anyway, the going price for YardRight here is $6.88 for a 40lb bag. Keep looking it's out there. ;D

Matt, Karlas is right. Rumor has that Southdown and CaribSea are one in the same. A fine grain size with NO SILICA in it. I looked into Southdown for my DSB before heading into another direction with the cpw. If you look on the bag it states "Not For Aquarium Use" on it, however, many reefers use it with great success.
