Ok so my first attempted reef tank killed just about everything that was in the tank. i now have started it back up the correct way. I am now curious on how to re establish my coraline?? I have one rock that I got when I first started the tank that had a BTA on it, it has the most beutiful orange-reddish coraline on it. but of course its in the back of the tank:(. I do see some faint signs of purple on the rocks and the snails are getting rid of the brown algea that covered the rocks. then of course the new light is doing wonders. Is there anything I can feed the tank to help the coraline spread?

There is no speeding up anything in this hobby. U can seed the tank with some and keep your levels correct and consistant but just let nature take its course. Sounds like u already experienced what rushing anything gets you.

in all honesty i believe coralline algae is bad for your tank. the advantages are
    A. it looks good
    B. other algae can't grow on coralline easily
    disadvantages.
    A. it covers up or shrinks the pores in live rock lessening the filtering compacity
    B. See disadvantages A.
i think losing the filtering ability of the rock is very bad

+1 on coralline. I don't even think it looks good. Plus you have to scrape it.. ughh. Anyway if you want to speed it up:

    1. Have great water parameters
    2. Have calcium in the upper range, 450ppm.
    3. Take a scraping of coralline from another tank and seed yours with it. It doesn't appear like magic like nuisance algae does. (Usually a frag of some sort will have it and that is good enough.

Another trick is to take a scraping, (if you offer to do this for someone with coralline blocking their view, I am sure they will be happy to let you take it). Add some as seed. Take the rest with saltwater and blend it in your blender. (Assuming your blender is clean, no soap residue, etc...) Then pour it over the rocks in your tank with the current and filter off. Keep the current off for an hour or so, (the longer the better as long as your tank stays happy), and then kick it back on. This really helps seed the rocks and gets it going. You can spread sponges in this way too, as long as you don't expose them to air. I did this once with a red ball sponge. Kind of a mistake, it worked too well, and I had sponge all over my tank.

as much as i like how coraline looks,i don't thinki it does much for the tank.i had alot but then snails took over and ate it all.my tank is just as nice without it.coraline was getting so covered that my tank was turned into the equivilantof a big pink lightbulb that turned my whole livingroom pink.

I agree with the first two and just wait, it will come. Dont try and rush things with this hobby.

This can help IF your Cal and other paras are up to par, otherwise it will just die off. Luna
