I am in the process of redesigning my canopy so that I may mount my MH lights inside of it. I ordered two Spider reflectors from an online store and upon arrival I discovered these do not come with the cord that runs form the ballast to the socket. These are about $15 a piece.

I originally bought the Spider reflectors because they were about $20 bucks cheaper than the Reef Optix 2's. Seeing as the Reef Optix 2 reflectors come with the cord installed my savings was minimal. I am on the fence of returning the Spider and getting the Reef Optix 2's. I would like to hear form someone who has experience with one or the other. Is one made out of a higher quality metal?

Be very cautious of on-line descriptions. Going back, yeah it doesn't say anything about a cord, but then it doesn't say it does not come with one either. Very cryptic and has delayed my canopy build by at least two weeks.

Buy the cords or return and get the ones that come with it?

Here's a bump, I do not have any experience with either.
It isn't too difficult to add a cord though.

have you checked into the lumenmax and lumenbrite reflectors? you get twice as much light into your tank with them...

Dingo...I'm asking about apples here and you tell me about oranges.

All lighting must be concealed in canopy. The 2 x 250w MH will be supplemented with 4 x 54w T5 so I need a reflector that will allow for the tubes to pass through.

Basically to restate the question. Are the reef optix 2 reflectors any better than the spider reflectors?

Hehehehe....Yes, Marine Depot told me they were pretty much identicle. I did know the difference about the cords, but the ballasts came with the cords. I am happy with the reflectors if thats any help.;)
