    when i read this I thought of all the people I have heard say "I didn't cycle my tank and I haven't lost anything yet". We all know how that ends.

    it has a coating that prevents some radiation fom making it through. Newer windows also have this treatment.

    ok, ill get it eventually. you may be right, it may come and bite me in the ass but right now im not gonna worry. its a good 12" off of the water. how much time do i have until stuff will start dying?

    i have a glass coveri could put over the tank also. i just dont really want to. will that do?

    I would this so...at least for now. Not certain, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

    Probably not. it will help a little, but if it doesnt have the UV coating it isn't enough.

    If the metal halide is the only lighting you have righ now, I would run it for no more than 2-3 hours a day. This will limit the amount of radiation burning the fish and coral, as well as giving your coral light to live.
