This has been growing off my live rock for some time now, starting to look interesting, the pictures show the growth that looks like a fungus that you would see growing out of an old log in the woods. I also have the same stuff growing upwards from the rock forming what looks more like steep mountains :)

Any idea what this stuff is??

Very interesting! While my first best guess would be a sponge also, am wondering if it could also be an algae species. One way to find out though, break one off and then take a cross section of its interior (slice it in half with a razor blade) and take a look at its internal structure(s).

I believe it is a species of algae! The reason why I eliminate the assumption of it being a sponge is that sponges consist of numerous pores(specialized cells known as -porocytes) as well as a mouth or excurrent part known as its oscula(outflowing part of its body where water that has been taken in through its porocytes into its atrium is then released through its oscula).
