Sponge on the brain frag?

    Hey guys, I noticed that something growing on my brain frag? Is that a sponge? Do I need to remove it?

    There are a few species of sponge that are invasive. Usually they are darker in color and don't have as many osculums. Just watch it but I don't think it's an issue.

    Hi,
    If it is hard to the touch then it could be a bryozone colony. The structure seems to be that of a bryozone colony. If it is soft to the touch it must be a sponge. Some sponges are of the burrowing type. They secrete acid that eats into calcareous rock, corals etc. If the coral shows any signs of stress such as not opening up fully or remains closed despite good water parameters then the sponge needs to be removed.
