Sponge or no Sponge????

    Just wondering if you all run those black sponges oover the intakes on the pumps of your skimmers. My HOB has one and I was not sure if I should leave the sponge over the intake or toss it in the trash.

    I don't run them just because I don't like adding things to create nitrates and I don't like cleaning them. I would never have one on the intake of my skimmer because that only prevents things from getting into the skimmer and being skimmed out.
